What is a Clit Clamp?
A clit clamp is a sex toy that gently pinches or squeezes either side of the clitoris for clit stimulation, intense sensations, and increased arousal. A clamped clit can feel amazing for constant stimulation... but the real fun starts when you take it off again. Removal results in a rush of blood to the entire clitoris, making it way more sensitive to erotic sensations and sexual pleasure. Thus, sensual touches and soft licks intensify orgasms for a more pleasurable experience.
Difference Between Clitoral Clamps and Nipple Clamps
Genital clamps a very similar to nipple clamps. They are both used for enhancement of sexual stimulation by squeezing the erogenous zone in question and applying direct pressure, which once released, allows the blood flow to escape back into that erogenous zone for a heightened sense of pleasure.
Clamps on clit or nipples are also used in BDSM bondage and fetishes experiences as a way to place a focus on these sexy areas for both the erotic enjoyment of the viewer and the wearer. During a BDSM experience, clit clamping can be used for a bit of erotic pain and pleasure play, and for extreme sensations.
Clitoris clamps and nipple or clitoral jewelry can also be worn as erotic adornments to enhance one’s sexual appeal, or even as a sexy secret hidden beneath your clothing. Some come with sexy elegant beads that are beautiful as well as stimulating.
Why Use Clitoris Clamps?
The main reason people use clitoris clamps is to heighten sensitivity and increase pleasure and stimulation. The clitoris has approximately 8,000 pleasure-sensitive nerve endings, and studies show that 75-80% of vulva owners need clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm. This is why clit-sucking toys and vibrators are so popular. But, for clitoral owners who don’t enjoy vibration, these sexy toys can provide extra stimulation without all the rumbles and tickles of a clitoral vibe.
Plus… for people who don’t have much sensation in their clitoris, using a clit clamp can increase the feeling of erotic awareness and tingly sensations. For people who already have lots of sensitivity, a clamped clit can greatly boost sexual pleasure and orgasm. Finally, many people enjoy clamped clit play as a part of their BDSM experience.
Here's how it works: A clamping clit toy squeezes either side of the clitoris, resulting in blood flow restriction to that area. Once the clamped clit is released, the engorged blood vessels within the clitoris swell and pulse with a rush of pleasure as the blood flow increases back into your pleasure zone. The feeling is euphoric as deep sensations return, leaving the clitoris super-sensitive, which is the ideal time to add direct stimulation for explosive orgasms.
Are Clit Clamps Safe?
Yes, clit clamping is completely safe, as long as you follow these guidelines:
First, clitoris clamps should NOT hurt (unless you are into a bit of pain). They are meant to apply gentle pressure to the clitoral hood (not to the clitoris itself) and to slightly squeeze tight enough to stay on, but not to create pain, or restrict blood flow altogether. If you feel pain, then the clit clamps may be too tight, or you may not have them on correctly. Also, silicone clit clamps are more comfortable than straight metal clamps, to create a pinch-perfect feel. See: How to Use a Clitoris Clamp for Sensation and Orgasm below to make the most of your sexy time.
If you experience any pain, extreme numbness, discoloration, coldness, or discomfort, gently remove clamp on clit slowly (don’t rip it off).
Never wear a clitoral clamp for more than 10 minutes at a time, even if wearing clit jewelry.
Why Are Clitoral Clamps Used in BDSM and Bondage?
Clitoral clamping is often used in a BDSM experience as one of the many forms of ‘bondage’ play, power play, D/s experiences, nipple play, and erotic pain and pleasure play. Technically, anything that ‘binds’ could be considered bondage. Many folx enjoy mixing pain with pleasure, as pain releases endorphins that heighten the sensual experience and give one an erotic ‘high’.
And, while clit clamps may look like tiny little torture devices, they can be used by anyone with a clitoris to intensify stimulation for powerful orgasms. These products can be an exciting part of BDSM sex play or be used with other BDSM toys for exciting erotic bondage or pain-pleasure play.
Types of Clit Clamps
There are a few different types of clit clamps on the market, including the vibrating clitoris clamp, so it can be helpful to know the difference before deciding on the best one for you. Lovehoney carries a few different types of clitoral clamps. Here are the three main types as well as our recommended bestsellers:
Classic Clitoris Clamp
Tweezer-style clit clamps often have a silicone tip for comfortable wear and an adjustable slide-to-fit design with a metal ring that easily adjusts the level of pinching. Sometimes called a beginner clamp on clit toy, this type of adjustable clit clamp is the gentlest kind that you can use and is easy to customize to increase or release the tension. However, a tweezer clit clamp can be a bit tricky to use the first time, so make sure to practice with it on another area first.
Another version of this type of tweezer-style clit clamp is the Fifty Shades Darker Just Sensation Beaded Clitoral Clamp, with its slide-on-to-fit design that allows you to achieve the perfect amount of pressure you desire. This beaded clit clamp heightens clitoral sensations to bring your sensory play into new realms of erotic excitement. This beaded clamp has weighted beads that hang and jiggle around your perineum for additional stimulation.
Magnetic Clit Clamp
The second type of clitty clamp is magnetic. This type of clamp can be used on the clit, nipples, labia, penis or just about anywhere external that is a pleasure point. It uses a powerful magnet to clamp itself to either side of your chosen body part. The sensation is the same, but because the magnet can’t be adjusted, the level of pinching is usually much more intense, making it more for intermediate users.
The DOMINIX Deluxe ultra-powerful magnetic orbs are the perfect example of this type of magnetic clit clamp, with super-strong, clamp-on clit magnets, designed to increase blood flow and sensitivity.
Nipple and Clitoral Clamp
The third and final type of BDSM clit clamps combines nipples clamps and a clitoral clamp in a 3-way clamp style. Many people who like having their clit clamped also love this sensation on their nipples. So, by doubling up on the clamping, you increase the sensations and maximize your pleasure with a nipple chain clit clamp set. These nipple “clamp with chain” toys connect the nipple to clit, so if you tug on one, it stimulates another area. Other variations on this are labia clamps that hold the labia apart, and these can be paired with nipple play as well.
The Bondage Boutique Adjustable Nipple Clamps and Clit Clamp is our most popular nip-n-clit clamp combo, featuring a fully adjustable crocodile clamp with adjustable screws design, and a central navel O-ring design, connected to a dangling clit clamp at the bottom. It’s suitable for all levels of experience. It’s great for bondage enthusiasts who enjoy intense BDSM sensations, yet it’s gentle enough for mild stimulation and beginners as well. Use with bondage restraints for heightened arousal.

How to Use a Clit Clamp
A little dab will do ya: Add a small dab of water-based lubricant to the tips of the clamps and use sparingly. Too much lube can make them slip off.
Test it first: When you first get your new clamp, test it on a less sensitive body part before you go using it on your pleasure pearl. Your fingertip or earlobe are good places to start so you can gauge the amount of pressure it will be applying.
Warm it up: As with any type of sexual play, a bit of stimulation beforehand will help you get turned on. This will give your clit a hard-on (yes, the clitoris gets erections too!), which makes it much easier to clit clamp your precious jewel. Pro Tip: Add a bullet vibrator to your clit clamps for additional stimulation and arousal.
Take it slow: When applying an adjustable clamp to your clitty, clamp clit gently and then slide the metal ring very slowly to get the right intensity you desire. Be careful, as these types of slide-to-fit clamps can be a bit finicky if you’ve never used them before and can slide too tight too fast if you are not careful. A tiny bit of lube can help it slide more easily. Alligator clamps are easier to adjust, slowly, for the perfect pinch.
Where to Clamp: For the slide-to-fit styles, the bulb of your clit (glans clitoris) should sit in the teardrop opening at the top of the toy. For tweezer-style clamps, the clitoral hood should go between the silicone tips, then the metal adjustment ring is slowly slid into place. With alligator or crocodile clamps, you squeeze the thumb lever to open the clamp, place the clamp tips on either side of the clit, then release the grips to create a pinch. The twist pin adjusts the amount of pressure applied. Important! All clamps should be applied behind the bulb of the clitoris, and with the clitoral hood covering the clit, rather than on the clitoris directly.
Stop for pain: Don’t leave your clamp on for more than 10 minutes at a time. Overuse may cause numbness from the decrease of blow flow to your genitals. This can become very painful if left on too long and may also cause damage to the clitoral nerves. Remember, wearing a clit clamp should never be painful, and you don’t want to squish your pleasure button into oblivion. Use common sense, and if it hurts, take it off.
Remove for pleasure: Let the fun begin! Now that you’ve had your clit clamp on for up to 10 minutes, it’s time to remove it before you climax, to allow the blood flow to rush back to the area for increased sensitivity and pleasure. Since the clitoris is super-sensitive, you can add all other kinds of manual stimulation play including oral pleasure licks, fingering strokes, or vibrator stimulation, as you like.
